Outing to Leeds Castle

The 12th of September was the day of the annual outing for volunteers of the House Project Centre. There was much anticipation when the coach came to pick up staff from Peacehaven and Saltdean to take us to Leeds Castle in Kent. There was so much to see and do there. The gardens are stunning and home to many river birds, a Maze with a central grotto, a falconry and museums. There was a bird of prey display which was wonderful to watch. The Castle itself is very pretty and steeped in hundreds of years of history. The weather was kind and a marvellous time was had by all.

Canine Corner

Many dogs love to visit the Saltdean shop. They are always greeted with a tickle and a stroke but of course all they are really interested in are the little dog treats! Here are just some of our lovely doggy visitors.

Welcome to the new House Project Centre website

We hope you enjoy looking through our new website. We are always looking for new volunteers so if you feel like joining us, pop into either shop and ask for details. We sell a wide range of babies, childrens, womens and mens clothing and shoes, home linens, books bric-a-brac small electricals, toys and much much more.

The Community Star Award

This is an award to be given each year to Primary Schools in the areas that our charity covers. The award will be presented to a child who has shown outstanding care and understanding to others. It may be bravery, fundraising, caring or support to another person or persons in the community, the list is endless! The person we are looking for is the one who has given that extra effort and selfless contribution, in fact a star!

The child with keep the Star, which will be engraved with their name as a reminder of their acheivement, and a new one will be given each year to another child nominated by their school.

We hope that many schools will participate in this aware scheme as we feel that the younger generation have a considerable contribution to make to the community and be recognised for this!

This years award trophies went to Jack Jutton, from Saltdean Primary School and Lilly Carroll from St Margarets’ C of E School, Rottingdean. Well done these two young people who do so much for the community.

David and Iris’ retirement party

In June, David and Iris Watson retired after 15 years volunteering for the House Project Centre. A combined retirement and 80th birthday (for Iris) party was hosted for the hardworking couple at the Avenue Tea Rooms on Longridge Avenue. Tea and cakes were served and a good time was had by all. After a well earned break, David hopes to return in September to the Saltdean shop to begin a series of coffee mornings.

Well done David and Iris for all of your hard work.
